India to Track All Trains in Real Time with Satellite Support: ISRO Chief

News Desk: Indian Railways is on the cusp of a technological leap, with real-time monitoring of all trains across the network soon becoming a reality, ISRO Chairman and Department of Space Secretary Dr. V. Narayanan announced during the 68th Annual Day celebrations of the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) in Secunderabad.

Dr. Narayanan commended Indian Railways for its contribution to the country’s infrastructure and growth, noting that being associated with IRISET remains a dream for many engineers. Highlighting the importance of seamless communication for railway safety, he emphasized that ISRO’s satellite systems are already providing crucial support — and will play an even larger role in the years ahead.

The ISRO Chief also expressed pride in India’s space achievements, remarking that the country now “has the best camera on the moon” and remains the first to accomplish a soft landing on the lunar south pole. He further revealed that ISRO and Indian Railways will deepen technical cooperation moving forward, particularly in emerging innovations.

In a prior recorded message, Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar reiterated that operational safety remains the organization’s highest priority. He emphasized the need to foster safe working practices among officers and supervisors, adding that IRISET’s training programmes extend beyond Railways to benefit private sector professionals as well.

South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava urged the institute to expand multi-skilling efforts and enhance the reliability of signalling and telecom systems — key pillars for a modern and efficient railway ecosystem.
