Modi–Putin Summit: Vision 2030 Pact Signed, Push for $100 Billion Trade

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday unveiled a sweeping Economic Cooperation Programme till 2030, signalling a major upgrade in bilateral trade, technology and strategic partnership.

Speaking at a joint press briefing in New Delhi, PM Modi said the India–Russia relationship has endured global upheavals for decades and continues to serve as a reliable anchor in uncertain times.
“Over the past eight decades, humanity has seen many crises and challenges. Through all this, the India–Russia friendship has remained like a pole star — steady and unwavering,” he said.

Modi emphasised that taking economic ties “to new heights” is now a shared priority, adding that the newly adopted roadmap aims to make bilateral trade “more diversified, balanced and sustainable.” Both sides are also pushing for an early India–EAEU Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to expand market access for Indian exports in pharmaceuticals, agriculture and consumer goods.

President Putin, thanking Modi for the warm welcome, reaffirmed Moscow’s focus on long-term partnership. He said Russia remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and added that India–Russia ties are “deeply rooted in history and trust.”

A comprehensive plan outlines priority areas for long-term cooperation across trade, co-production, innovation, connectivity, digital economy and manufacturing.

🔹 Push for $100 Billion Trade by 2030
Both leaders reviewed progress and agreed to accelerate efforts to expand bilateral trade — especially increasing India’s exports.

🔹 Energy Partnership Strengthened
Civil nuclear projects, critical minerals, petroleum supplies and long-term energy security remained central to discussions. Putin assured uninterrupted energy supplies to India.

🔹 Counter-Terrorism Alignment
Modi stressed that India and Russia stand “shoulder to shoulder” against terrorism, noting that threats to both countries come from common sources. He reiterated the need for united global action.

🔹 Ukraine Conflict
Reiterating India’s position, PM Modi said New Delhi stands firmly on the side of peace and diplomacy. Putin briefed him on Russia’s ongoing proposals for a peaceful settlement.

🔹 Defence, Space & High-Tech
Talks covered joint production, shipbuilding, space exploration, artificial intelligence and Make in India–aligned defence collaborations.

🔹 Labour Mobility Agreement
Work is underway on a new pact to enable smoother movement of skilled and semi-skilled Indian workers to Russia.

🔹 Global Coordination
The two nations agreed to deepen coordination on global platforms including the UN, G20, BRICS and SCO.

With the 2030 roadmap signed and high-level talks concluded, the Modi–Putin summit has set the stage for a more expansive and strategically aligned partnership in the coming decade.
