Bokaro: Calling on students to become responsible, value-driven citizens, Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha urged children to move ahead in life with confidence and a strong sense of social responsibility, describing such individuals as the nation’s true assets.
Addressing the annual function of MGM Higher Secondary School, Sector 04-F, as the chief guest on Saturday evening, the DC delivered a message rooted in values, empathy, and inclusive growth.
Drawing a striking analogy, Jha advised students to “grow like a banyan tree, not a eucalyptus.” While a eucalyptus grows fast but serves little purpose to others, he said, a banyan offers shade, shelter, and security to society. “Success should benefit not just the individual, but everyone around,” he remarked.
Speaking to teachers, the DC highlighted the importance of embracing diversity and adaptability, noting that these qualities define one’s true identity. He suggested that teachers spend at least five minutes interacting informally with students every day before classes begin, helping them overcome anxiety or despair. “If children don’t learn the right values from you, they may go astray. You are shaping their future,” he said.
Turning to parents, Jha appealed to them to spend 15–20 minutes daily with their children and build a bond of friendship and trust. He stressed that children should feel confident enough to share their problems freely. Mistakes, he said, must be corrected with understanding, adding that errors should be bona fide, not mala fide.
Concluding his address, the Deputy Commissioner delivered a clear message on ethical success: “Rise in life, but never by pulling others down.” True progress, he said, is achieved when personal growth goes hand in hand with the welfare of society.
