Bokaro: Bokaro witnessed a rare literary spectacle as the Mithila Sanskritik Parishad hosted the 124th edition of its iconic all-night storytelling conclave, “Sagar Rati Deep Jarae”, at the Vidyapati Auditorium of Mithila Academy Public School, Sector-4E.
The unique event began around 6 pm on Saturday with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp, which continued to glow uninterrupted till sunrise on Sunday. As long as the flame burned, Maithili litterateurs from across India—Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Delhi—kept the night alive with stories, poems and satire, offering vivid reflections on society while the audience actively critiqued the works.
The programme opened with floral tributes to Mahakavi Vidyapati and collective singing of “Jai Jai Bhairavi”, setting a cultural tone. Council president Jayprakash Chaudhary termed the event a symbol of faith in Mithila’s rich heritage, saying the “lamp of literature” helps dispel social darkness. General secretary Neeraj Chaudhary described the occasion as a fortunate continuation of a tradition sustained since the 1990s.
Presiding over the literary session, senior writer Ramesh lauded Bokaro’s enthusiasm for Maithili literature and called the council’s efforts a major cultural achievement. He highlighted that Sagar Rati Deep Jarae aims to connect literature with common people while nurturing a new generation of writers through open, participative dialogue.
The night-long session featured powerful readings and recitations by noted writers including Budhinath Jha, Dr Dhanakar Thakur, Hirendra Kumar Jha, Vachaspati Thakur Sujit, Manikant Jha, Rajiv Kumar Kanth, Pritam Kumar Nishad, Shailja Jha, Neelam Jha, Aman Kumar Jha, Vijay Shankar Mallik Sudhapati, Bhutkun Jha, Adyanath Jha Naveen, and Gangesh Kumar Pathak, among others. Their works ranged from social realism and satire to poetry steeped in Mithila’s cultural ethos.
A highlight of the event was the release of Adyanath Jha Naveen’s new book, “Khutti San Latkal Anga.” The storytelling session was anchored by Sujit Thakur, while literary critiques were offered by senior scholars and writers present.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by coordinator Shambhu Jha, marking another memorable chapter in Bokaro’s cultural journey and reaffirming the enduring glow of Maithili literature.
