Gen-Z Post Office Brings a New Face to Postal Services
Ranchi: In a bold step towards reimagining traditional postal services for a digital-first generation, the Department of Posts on Thursday inaugurated Jharkhand’s first Gen-Z Post Office, designed as a Post Café and experience centre, at the IIM Ranchi campus.
The initiative reflects the vision of Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, aimed at bridging the gap between Generation Z and postal services through innovation, technology and experiential engagement.
The facility was inaugurated by Ram Vilas Chaudhary, Director, Jharkhand Postal Circle, in the presence of Om Prakash Singhania, Member of the Governing Board of IIM Ranchi, and Prof. Deepak Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, the chief guest at the event. The ceremony featured a traditional lamp-lighting followed by the ribbon-cutting, formally marking the launch of the state’s first Gen-Z Post Office.
Several senior postal officials, faculty members and students of IIM Ranchi were present on the occasion.

Gen-Z Post Office
Unlike conventional post offices, the Gen-Z Post Office has been conceptualised as a youth-centric Post Café, blending postal services with a modern, interactive environment. With creative wall art, digital displays and café-style seating, the space is designed to encourage interaction, innovation and creative thinking among young users.
The office has been allotted PIN code 834017, ensuring faster and streamlined postal services for the IIM Ranchi campus and nearby areas.
It offers all key postal services, including Speed Post, Registered Post, parcel services, philately, postal savings schemes, insurance products and e-commerce logistics. Keeping Generation Z in focus, the facility features digital payments, QR code-based services, online tracking systems and interactive information kiosks.
Addressing the gathering, officials said the Gen-Z Post Office represents a transformative shift in how the postal department connects with young India. They noted that the centre is expected to evolve into a hub for innovation, startup ideas and creative dialogue, aligning with the department’s vision of “New Postal Services for a New India.”
The Post Café at IIM Ranchi is being seen as a model initiative that could be replicated across other educational institutions in Jharkhand and beyond, as India Post continues its nationwide push to modernise and digitise its services.
