India Commissions Indigenous ICG Ship Amulya Under Make in India Drive

Goa: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Thursday commissioned ICG Ship Amulya, the third vessel of the new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels, at a ceremony in Goa, reinforcing India’s maritime security and indigenous defence capabilities.

Built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), the 51-metre-long vessel features over 60 per cent indigenous components, underscoring India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, the Defence Ministry said.

Named Amulya—meaning priceless—the ship symbolises the Coast Guard’s commitment to ensuring safe, secure and clean seas. Powered by two 3,000-kilowatt diesel engines, the vessel can achieve a top speed of 27 knots and has an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles.

The ship is equipped with advanced technology, including controllable pitch propellers, modern gearboxes, a 30-mm main gun, two remote-controlled 12.7-mm guns, and integrated control and surveillance systems.

ICG Ship Amulya will be deployed for coastal surveillance, interdiction operations, search and rescue missions, anti-smuggling efforts, and pollution response along the eastern coast, significantly enhancing the Coast Guard’s operational preparedness.
