New Delhi: The 19-day Winter Session of Parliament came to an end today with both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha being adjourned sine die. The Lok Sabha was adjourned first, followed by the Upper House.
In his valedictory address, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the House recorded an impressive 111 per cent productivity during the session, which comprised 15 sittings. He thanked members across party lines for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of proceedings.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan said the Upper House functioned for about 92 hours and achieved 121 per cent productivity. He noted that 59 private members’ Bills were introduced during the session, reflecting active legislative participation.
The Chairman said the session witnessed substantive and high-quality debates on issues of historical and democratic importance. He highlighted a special discussion marking the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, in which 82 members took part. Another key debate focused on electoral reforms, with 57 members contributing views on strengthening India’s democratic framework.
However, Mr Radhakrishnan also expressed concern over disruptions during the previous day’s sitting. He said sloganeering, displaying placards, interrupting ministerial replies, and throwing papers into the well of the House amounted to conduct unbecoming of Members of Parliament. He urged members to introspect and refrain from such behaviour in future sessions.
With the adjournment sine die, the Winter Session formally drew to a close.
