New Delhi/Amritsar/Patna: The 359th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of the Khalsa Panth, was observed with deep reverence across India and abroad on Friday, marked by prayers, kirtans and religious processions at major Sikh shrines.
Special programmes were held at Takht Sri Patna Sahib, where the tenth Guru was born in 1666, and at Sri Harmandir Sahib, along with Gurudwaras across Punjab and other parts of the country. The observances also commemorated the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Sahibzadas and his mother, Mata Gujri Ji.

Ragi jathas rendered hymns highlighting the Guru’s life, courage and sacrifices, drawing thousands of devotees from India and overseas who paid obeisance and reflected on his teachings of justice, equality and resistance to oppression.
In Amritsar, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee organised a nagar kirtan from Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Hazuri Raagi Bhai Jujhar Singh said Guru Gobind Singh Ji stood firmly against tyranny and sacrificed his entire family for the welfare of humanity, calling upon devotees to imbibe his ideals in daily life.
Given the solemn remembrance of the Sahibzadas’ martyrdom, only Deepmala will be observed at Sri Harmandir Sahib in the evening, without fireworks, devotees said.
The day underscored the enduring legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji—his message of bravery, faith and selfless service continuing to inspire generations.
