In her complaint, the survivor said she had purchased a small parcel of land along with a two-storey house about two-and-a-half years ago in Ward No. 7 of Kaliganj municipality from a man identified as Shahin and his brother, reports NDTV. She alleged that Shahin repeatedly harassed her with indecent proposals, which she consistently rejected.
The woman further alleged that Shahin, along with an associate identified as Hasan, forced their way into her residence, raped her, and demanded 50,000 taka. She said she lost consciousness following the assault due to severe physical and psychological trauma.
Local residents reportedly intervened after the incident and rushed the survivor to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.
The survivor has since filed a formal case at Kaliganj Police Station. Confirming the complaint, Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Billal Hossain said the police have recorded her statement and assured that a thorough investigation is underway, adding that “the highest possible legal action” will be taken based on the findings.
