NHAI Sets Two Guinness World Records in 24 Hours for Highway Construction

New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s infrastructure credentials, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set two Guinness World Records for bituminous concrete laying on the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta stretch of the six-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor.

According to NHAI, the first record was achieved by laying around 29 lane-kilometres of bituminous concrete continuously within 24 hours, the longest such stretch ever completed in a single day. The second record marks the highest quantity of bituminous concrete, with over 10,000 metric tonnes laid continuously in the same time frame.

In a social media update, NHAI said the 343-km-long economic corridor will significantly enhance inter-state connectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, enabling smoother movement of goods and people. The project is expected to bolster trade, tourism, and regional economic growth by ensuring faster, safer, and uninterrupted travel.

The authority said the record-breaking feat underlines India’s growing engineering capability and its commitment to building world-class national highway infrastructure. NHAI also revealed that two more Guinness World Record attempts are currently underway on the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta–Odulapalle section of NH-544G.

Reacting to the achievement, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, said the milestone reflects the vision of the Government of India and its sharp focus on modern infrastructure under Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. He lauded the engineers, workers, and field teams for their dedication and tireless efforts in delivering the record-setting performance.

The achievement adds another milestone to India’s rapidly expanding highway network and signals the country’s ambition to match global benchmarks in infrastructure development.
