Elephant Movement Sparks Alert in Gomia Block, Villages Put on Watch

Bokaro: The district administration sounded a high alert after a herd of elephants entered Gomia block on Wednesday evening. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha chaired an emergency VC meeting with senior police, forest, disaster management and local officials, ordering round-the-clock monitoring and inter-departmental coordination.

Officials were told to track elephant movement, identify vulnerable villages and take swift preventive steps to avoid any loss of life or property. A 24×7 control room has been set up at the Bermo sub-divisional level to receive public alerts and ensure rapid response.

The Forest Department has been tasked with scientifically managing traditional elephant corridors, boosting field deployment and strengthening warning systems. A dedicated WhatsApp group has also been created for real-time information sharing.

Authorities will launch an awareness drive urging villagers to remain vigilant, avoid night movement and not provoke elephants. CSR units will supply torches in affected areas, while village defence teams and forest protection committees are being activated.

Power supply and emergency lighting in vulnerable villages will be reinforced. If required, residents will be shifted to safe shelters with basic amenities.

The administration urged the public to ignore rumours, follow official advisories and immediately report any unusual activity, warning that negligence by officials will invite strict action.
