Macron invites PM Modi to G7 Summit in France

New Delhi/Mumbai: French President Emmanuel Macron has formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the G7 Summit scheduled to be hosted by France in 2026, signalling Paris’ continued push to deepen India’s role in shaping global economic and strategic discourse.

France will chair the high-profile summit later this year. According to a joint statement issued after talks between the two leaders, Macron invited India to participate actively in both the preparatory process and the summit discussions.

The statement noted that the focus areas would include addressing global macroeconomic imbalances and shaping a new framework for international partnerships and solidarity.

Prime Minister Modi warmly accepted the invitation, reaffirming India’s long-standing engagement with the G7 and its commitment to constructive global cooperation. The statement said India is keen to contribute meaningfully on key issues such as development financing, economic security, resilient supply chains, climate action and international security.

Both leaders expressed confidence that India’s participation would strengthen collective efforts to tackle pressing global challenges and help build a more balanced, inclusive and resilient international order. They also underscored the need for coordinated global action, particularly on macroeconomic concerns.
