VP Radhakrishnan Launches Constitution in Gujarati, Tamil and Hindi Legal Glossary
New Delhi: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday launched the Constitution of India in Gujarati and Tamil along with the 8th edition of the English–Hindi Legal Glossary, calling the initiative a major step toward strengthening constitutional awareness among citizens.
Speaking at the release ceremony at Uprashtrapati Bhavan, the Vice President said the Constitution derives its real power when people can access it in their own languages. He emphasised that expanding linguistic access would deepen public understanding of rights, duties and democratic responsibilities.

Radhakrishnan described Gujarati and Tamil as among India’s rich classical languages with deep literary and intellectual traditions. Making the Constitution available in these languages, he said, would help bridge the gap between citizens and the country’s foundational legal document.
Highlighting the broader effort, he noted that official translations of the Constitution have now been made available in Boro, Dogri, Santali and several other languages for the first time.
On the newly released Legal Glossary, the Vice President said it is more than a reference volume, calling it an empowering tool that enables citizens to engage with constitutional and legal terminology in Hindi. He added that the glossary would be particularly useful for lawmakers, students, judicial officers, researchers, translators and policymakers.
Reaffirming India’s linguistic ethos, Radhakrishnan said the country’s language diversity remains a source of unity and strength rather than division.
