US Currency to Bear Trump’s Signature in Historic First, Treasury Announces

Washington: In a significant break from long-standing tradition, the United States will soon introduce currency notes carrying the signature of Donald Trump, the Treasury Department has announced.

The move marks a historic shift in US currency design, as American banknotes have conventionally featured only the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer. Under the revised format, the Treasurer’s signature will be removed, making way for the President’s name alongside that of the Treasury Secretary.

The new design is expected to debut with high-denomination notes, with phased rollout across other currency values in due course.

Officials described the change as part of broader commemorative efforts linked to a major national milestone, signalling a departure from a practice that has remained largely unchanged for over a century.

While US law bars the depiction of living individuals on currency, authorities clarified that there are no restrictions on including presidential signatures, making the change legally permissible.

The decision is being viewed as a notable redesign of one of the most recognisable symbols of the US economy, and is likely to trigger wider discussion over tradition, symbolism, and the evolving identity of American currency.
