Bokaro: A deadly quest for viral fame turned into a nightmare on Sunday when a teenager was killed and another critically injured after coming in contact with a high-voltage railway wire while shooting reels atop a goods train in Bokaro, Jharkhand.
The chilling incident unfolded near the Railway Goods Siding ‘N’ Cabin under Balidih Police Station, where a group of boys from Bari Co-operative Colony had gathered to film social media videos.
According to eyewitnesses, while others filmed from the ground, two 16-year-olds—Kaushik Sharma and Abhimanyu—climbed onto a stationary train for a dramatic shot. In a split second of thrill, they raised their hands—only to touch the deadly 25,000-volt overhead power line.
What followed was sheer horror.
A loud explosion, flashes of blue sparks—and both teenagers were hurled to the ground, critically electrocuted. Their friends stood frozen in shock as the scene unfolded before their eyes.
RPF personnel, led by Officer-in-Charge Santosh Kumar, along with local police, rushed to the site. The injured boys were quickly taken to Bokaro General Hospital with the help of locals.
Doctors declared Kaushik Sharma dead on arrival. Abhimanyu, with severe burn injuries, remains in the ICU, fighting a grim battle for survival.
The tragic incident has once again exposed the dark side of the reel-making frenzy—where a few seconds of viral fame can cost a lifetime.
