Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited brought the curtain down on its 55th National Safety Month with a strong message: safety isn’t just policy—it’s a mindset. Anchored around the theme “Engage, Educate & Empower to Enhance Safety,” the month-long campaign focused on embedding safe practices into everyday work culture.
The initiative kicked off at Palash Ground with a ceremonial lamp lighting and safety flag hoisting, setting a purposeful tone. Senior leadership, department heads, and employees came together to take a safety pledge, reaffirming their commitment to disciplined and responsible work practices.
Over the course of the month, ESL rolled out a series of high-impact activities aimed at boosting awareness and participation across all levels. Campaigns like Roko-Toko, safety exhibitions, and fire extinguisher training under CSR initiatives ensured hands-on learning, while Safety Chaupal discussions and gate meetings strengthened direct engagement with workers.
Creative contests—including quizzes, poster-making, poetry, and even meme competitions—added an interactive edge, drawing enthusiastic participation. Meanwhile, initiatives such as the One-Day Safety Officer program, safety-themed treasure hunts, and open forums on accident prevention encouraged employees to take ownership of workplace safety.
Specialised sessions on critical areas like working at heights and confined space safety further enhanced on-ground preparedness.
The closing ceremony saw the presence of top leadership, including Ravish Sharma, Deputy CEO & Whole-Time Director, along with senior executives Shyamlee Minz, Ashish Bhardwaj, Tapesh Chandra Naskar, Sunil Kumar N, and Binod Kumar. The event celebrated collective efforts and concluded with awards recognising standout contributions to safety.
Addressing the gathering, Ravish Sharma underscored the human aspect of safety, stating that achieving Zero Harm depends on individual responsibility—not just for oneself, but for others as well. He stressed that true safety culture emerges when safe behaviour becomes instinctive, not enforced.
Highlighting leadership’s role, he added that proactive decision-making and leading by example are key to ensuring safety reaches every worker on the ground.
As ESL Steel wraps up its Safety Month, the message is clear: safety is not just a rulebook—it’s a value that must be lived every day.
