News Desk: In a major escalation in the ongoing West Asia conflict, a United States fighter jet has been shot down over Iranian territory, triggering an urgent and high-risk search operation for a missing crew member even as Iran claims that a US pilot has been captured.

According to US officials, the aircraft involved was an F-15E Strike Eagle, a twin-seat combat jet carrying two crew members. Both personnel ejected safely before the aircraft crashed. One crew member has since been rescued, while the second remains unaccounted for, prompting a large-scale recovery mission inside hostile territory.

The United States has deployed special operations teams and rescue aircraft to locate the missing airman in a vast and rugged region believed to be within central Iran. The operation is considered highly sensitive, with reports indicating that US rescue helicopters faced hostile fire during the mission but managed to withdraw safely.

In a parallel development, Iranian authorities have also initiated efforts to locate the missing crew member. Reports suggest that local civilians have been urged to assist in the search, effectively turning the situation into a race between US forces and Iranian units to reach the airman first.

Iranian state media has presented a sharply different version of events, claiming that a stealth F-35 fighter jet was shot down and that a US pilot has been taken into custody by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, these claims remain unverified, and US as well as Western sources maintain that the downed aircraft was an F-15E.

Conflicting narratives have further deepened the uncertainty surrounding the incident, with varying Iranian reports suggesting the pilot may have been killed or detained. No official confirmation of any capture has been issued by the United States.

The shootdown marks a significant development in the conflict, being one of the most serious direct confrontations between US forces and Iran in recent times. Military analysts warn that the situation could escalate further, particularly if the missing crew member is located by Iranian forces.

The incident also highlights the growing “fog of war,” with both sides projecting competing claims while events continue to unfold on the ground.

As the search operation continues, the fate of the missing US airman remains unclear, keeping tensions high and raising concerns of a broader regional escalation.
