BJP unveils its West Bengal election manifesto promising UCC within six months and ₹3,000 monthly aid for women, along with major reforms in jobs, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its manifesto for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, placing the issue of fear versus trust at the center and calling for a major political shift in the state. The most prominent and impactful promise in this manifesto is the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within just six months of forming the government. This move is expected to compel Trinamool leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to clearly state her party’s position on the issue. If she opposes it, Hindu voters may move away from her, and if she supports it, Muslim voters could distance themselves. Alongside this, the BJP has announced a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for every woman to economically empower them, a move widely seen as a political masterstroke in the current state scenario. Through this manifesto, the BJP has attempted to convey that it aims to end appeasement politics in Bengal and usher in a new era of rule of law and comprehensive development. The document outlines several promises based on Bengal’s identity, security, and prosperity, aiming to touch every section of society.
The promise of implementing the Uniform Civil Code is not only a significant step toward social equality but is also viewed as a reflection of the BJP’s ideological commitment. Additionally, prioritizing women’s safety and empowerment, the party has proposed a larger financial support scheme of ₹3,000 per month, positioned as an answer to existing schemes like Lakshmi Bhandar, with the aim of making women self-reliant. In the education sector, the BJP has promised to make the Bengali language mandatory from primary to higher education and to make technical courses available in the local language, thereby strengthening Bengal’s cultural identity. Special provisions have also been made for the agricultural sector, including increased annual financial assistance for farmers and guarantees for fair prices for crops. Furthermore, to generate employment opportunities for youth, the party has outlined plans to boost industrial investment in the state and revive closed jute mills. The manifesto also emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, promising transparency in government recruitments and the formation of a special commission to investigate recruitment scams.
To improve healthcare services, the manifesto promises the immediate implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, enabling poor families to receive free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh. Addressing the issue of infiltration in border areas and strengthening security arrangements, the party has pledged to deploy modern technology and additional security forces. To promote tourism and culture, plans have been proposed for the development of Shakti Peeths and the beautification of religious tourism centers. The BJP has also assured special financial packages for the welfare of fishing communities and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, along with ensuring that reservation benefits reach the grassroots level. Emphasis has also been placed on infrastructure development, including new roads, bridges, and urban facilities, with the aim of making Bengal an attractive destination for investment.
To improve law and order, the party has promised modernization of the police force and the complete elimination of political violence, assuring citizens of a fear-free environment. The manifesto specifically mentions increasing wages for tea garden workers and improving their living standards through special housing schemes. It also includes plans for environmental protection and the development of ecologically sensitive regions such as the Sundarbans through a dedicated action plan. Through this manifesto, the BJP has made it clear that its goal is not merely a change of power but a transformation of governance. The acceleration of the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide clean drinking water to every household and the improvement of internet connectivity in villages have also been included as commitments. Overall, the BJP’s manifesto envisions a Bengal where development reaches the last person and where cultural pride goes hand in hand with economic progress. This manifesto is likely to serve as a key ideological tool for the party in the upcoming elections, presenting voters with a clear blueprint for the future.
