Teachers Play Key Role in Addressing Adolescent Challenges: Dr. A.S. Gangwar

Bokaro: A two-day Capacity Building Workshop focused on Adolescent Education concluded on Friday at DPS Bokaro. The workshop was conducted in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to equip educators with the skills needed to support students during their critical teenage years.

Organized under the aegis of CBSE’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), Patna, the workshop saw active participation from nearly 60 teachers of the school. The sessions were led by P. Shailaja Jayakumar, Principal of Sri Ayyappa Public School, Bokaro, and Chanda Kumari, senior teacher at MGM Higher Secondary School.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. A.S. Gangwar, Principal of DPS Bokaro, alongside the resource persons, with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp amid Vedic chants.

The program began on a harmonious note with a devotional rendition of “Gaaiye Ganapati Jag Vandana” by the school’s music teachers.

In his welcome address, Dr. Gangwar emphasized that adolescence is one of the most sensitive and transformative phases in a child’s life, marked by rapid physical, emotional, social, and psychological changes. He highlighted the critical role that teachers play in guiding teenagers through this complex phase.

Throughout the two-day workshop, both theoretical and practical aspects of adolescent education were covered through interactive sessions and engaging group activities. Teachers explored topics such as the definition of adolescence, adolescent behavior, emotional needs, challenges, and expectations.

Shailaja Jayakumar noted that teenagers are the future leaders and that educators have a shared responsibility—along with parents—to nurture them during the 10 to 19-year age window. Discussions also touched on contemporary issues such as the impact of social media, gender sensitivity, and substance abuse.

The second day featured more hands-on activities and evaluations, culminating in a meaningful and reflective closing session.
