India Launches ‘Operation Sindhu’ to Evacuate Citizens from Conflict-Hit Iran

New Delhi: Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has launched a special evacuation initiative titled “Operation Sindhu” to ensure the safety of Indian nationals residing in Iran.

In the first phase of the operation, 110 Indian students were successfully evacuated from northern Iran on Monday. These students were guided across the border into Armenia, with assistance from the Indian Embassies in Tehran and Yerevan. The evacuees traveled by road to Yerevan, the Armenian capital, and departed for New Delhi on a special flight arranged by the Government of India. Their arrival is expected in the early hours of Tuesday.

In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed gratitude to the governments of Iran and Armenia for their cooperation and logistical support in facilitating the safe passage of Indian nationals.

The MEA reaffirmed that the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad remains a top priority. As part of Operation Sindhu, the Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuing to assist other Indian nationals in relocating from high-risk zones to relatively safer regions within Iran, with further evacuation plans underway depending on feasibility and security conditions.
