Kolkata: Kolkata reels under shock as a law college in the city’s Kasba area turns into a crime scene—where a young law student was allegedly gangraped inside the campus walls by her peers, including a former student who now practices law. The incident, which took place on the evening of June 25, has sent shockwaves across the city, exposing not just a brutal crime but also possible political links behind the accused.
According to police, the main accused is a former student who graduated in 2022 and currently practices law at Alipore court. He reportedly lured the victim to campus by promising her the position of General Secretary (GS) in the student council. Once she arrived, the accused and his associates allegedly took her to a room and raped her.
A senior officer told the media, “We have arrested all three. The main accused is the ex-student. We’re investigating whether the other two were also directly involved or just present.”
The identities of the accused have not been revealed officially, but political controversy has already erupted.
The opposition BJP has alleged that the main accused was a former member of the ruling Trinamool Congress’ student wing, TMCP. A BJP leader claimed on X:
“A female student of a reputed South Kolkata law college was brutally gangraped—right outside the union room of TMCP.”

Another shameful chapter has been added to Bengal’s collapsing law and order under TMC rule.

This incident has sparked memories of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, which occurred less than a year ago and had ignited nationwide protests. In that case, a civic volunteer was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, but the victim’s family had alleged a larger cover-up by the administration.
OUTRAGEOUS! Manojit Mishra, one of the prime accused in the brutal gang-rape of a college student in Kasba has direct links with the most powerful in the TMC:

With this fresh case, questions are again being raised about campus safety, political influence, and law enforcement in West Bengal.
