UN-Backed SDGs Award Goes to DPS Bokaro for Environmental Leadership

Bokaro: In a remarkable acknowledgement of its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, DPS Bokaro has been awarded the prestigious SDGs School Award for its exemplary green initiatives aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The school was the only institution from Bokaro district to be recognized at the Educational Leadership Conclave 2025, held on Sunday at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The event was hosted by the Centre for Educational Development (CED) Foundation, an organization affiliated with NITI Aayog and the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal of DPS Bokaro, received the award in the presence of distinguished educationists, including Dr. Bijaya Kumar Malik (Associate Professor, NCERT), Jaideep Das (former Joint Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan), and Dr. Priyadarshi Nayak, Chairman of CED Foundation.

The award recognizes DPS Bokaro’s multifaceted eco-friendly practices—from installing solar panels to implementing a comprehensive waste segregation and recycling system. The school has introduced a strict “No Single-Use Plastic” policy, encourages reusable materials, and promotes composting on campus. These measures not only reduce the institution’s carbon footprint but also serve as powerful learning models for students.

One of its most ambitious goals is to become a Zero-Waste School by the end of this academic session. To lead this vision, the school’s Eco Club is actively campaigning to make the entire campus 100% waste-free.

Dr. Gangwar, while expressing his gratitude for the honour, credited the achievement to the collective efforts of students, teachers, parents, and all stakeholders. He called upon the school community to maintain a balance between environmental, social, and economic pillars of sustainable development.

The recognition positions DPS Bokaro not just as an academic institution, but as a changemaker in environmental education and action, inspiring schools nationwide to integrate sustainability into everyday learning.
