US Professor Calls Trump ‘Chu**’ as India–US Tariff War Escalates

US Analyst Sparks Row by Using Hindi Slur “chu***” Against Trump Amid India–US Trade Tensions

News Desk: An American political analyst has ignited controversy after using a Hindi expletive to describe former US President Donald Trump during a live interview, drawing amused reactions online.

Carol Christine Fair, a professor in Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program, was speaking with Pakistan-origin British journalist Moeed Pirzada when she bluntly referred to Trump as a “chu***”*—a Hindi slang roughly translating to “idiot.”

The clip, which has since gone viral, shows Fair saying:
“The optimist in me would like to believe the bureaucracy is going to hold things together. But the pessimist in me says, this is six months, and we’ve got four years of this chu*** here.”*

Visibly amused, Pirzada responded that he often used the same word in Urdu, to which Fair doubled down, repeating, “Well, he is, he is a chu***.”*

Fair, known for her blunt commentary, went on to highlight how the US bureaucracy had invested decades in shaping India–US relations, warning that mass resignations at the State Department had weakened America’s diplomatic apparatus.

The remarks came at a sensitive moment—just as Washington imposed steep trade penalties on India. From Wednesday, the Trump administration enforced a 25% tariff on Indian goods over high import duties on US products, and another 25% penalty linked to India’s continued purchase of discounted Russian crude oil. The second tranche of tariffs will come into effect on August 27, 2025.

Since the Ukraine war began in 2022, India has ramped up imports of cheap Russian oil, which now accounts for more than 30% of its crude basket. Indian refineries re-export refined fuel globally, a practice US critics argue indirectly boosts Moscow’s war chest.

Fair’s sharp language, mixed with the timing of Washington’s punitive measures, has amplified debates on the fragility of India–US ties under shifting geopolitical pressures.
