Pakistan lost 12-13 aircraft during Op Sindoor
New Delhi: Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on Friday said that during Operation Sindoor, five Pakistani fighter jets—including US-made F-16s and Chinese J-17s—were shot down, media reports confirmed.
Singh stated that the Indian military has verified one long-range strike on an AEW&C aircraft and four to five strikes on fighter jets, according to NDTV. The Air Force chief added that precision strikes had disabled radars, runways, hangars, command and control centres, and other key military infrastructure, highlighting the operation’s significant impact between May 7 and 10.

Rejecting claims of foreign mediation, Singh supported the government’s position that Pakistan requested the ceasefire, contradicting US President Donald Trump’s assertion that he brokered the deal. Trump had suggested he used trade incentives to prevent escalation, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar maintained that there was no global intervention, noting no call occurred between Modi and Trump from April 22 to June 17.
“In Operation Sindoor, terrorists paid the price for killing innocent civilians, and the world saw we achieved our goal. We struck targets across 300 km, and then Pakistan asked for a ceasefire,” Singh told NDTV.
Launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians, Operation Sindoor destroyed nine terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) within 25 minutes. These camps were major hubs for terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
A statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) emphasized that the operation targeted terror camps actively involved in planning and executing attacks against India, demonstrating the precision and reach of India’s military response.
