Mass Stabbing on Cambridgeshire Train (London) Sparks Major Police Response

London: In a shocking act of violence, ten passengers were injured — nine critically — after a knife attack on a London-bound train late Saturday, prompting a massive police response in Cambridgeshire.

Armed officers and emergency teams rushed to Huntingdon railway station after the train, travelling from Doncaster to King’s Cross, was halted following distress calls around 7:40 p.m.

“Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries,” the British Transport Police said on X, confirming counterterrorism units were assisting.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and horror as a man wielding a large knife began stabbing passengers. “There was blood everywhere. People hid in washrooms or tried to flee,” one survivor told The Times.

Police reportedly tasered and restrained the suspect on the platform once the train stopped. A second person was later arrested, Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood confirmed.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the “appalling” attack and praised emergency services for their swift action.

The East of England Ambulance Service launched a “large-scale response,” deploying multiple ambulances and air support. Train operator LNER suspended services on the route, warning of “major disruption.”

Cambridgeshire Mayor Paul Bristow described “horrendous scenes” at the station and expressed solidarity with the victims.

Authorities have yet to reveal the suspects’ identities or motive. The attack comes amid rising concern over knife crime in the UK, which has been climbing steadily since 2011 despite strict weapons laws.

The Labour government has pledged to halve knife crime within a decade, even as recent stabbings in Manchester and London have reignited fears over public safety.
