
RNS: A devastating road accident in Saudi Arabia has left more than 40 Indians feared dead after a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims crashed into a diesel tanker near Medina early Monday, according to media reports.
Most of the victims are believed to be from Hyderabad, Telangana. The Consulate General of India in Jeddah has confirmed the incident and activated an emergency helpline.
“In view of a tragic bus accident near Madina involving Indian Umrah pilgrims, a 24×7 Control Room has been set up in the Consulate,” the Consulate General stated in a post on X.

The accident occurred around 1 am. The pilgrim group had departed from Hyderabad on November 9 and was returning to Medina after offering prayers in Mecca. Many passengers were reportedly asleep when the bus collided with the tanker, causing a massive impact.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed “profound shock” over the tragedy and directed top state officials to gather complete details. His office said he has asked the Chief Secretary and DGP to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi Embassy to ensure urgent relief measures. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has already spoken with Coordination Secretary Gaurav Uppal in Delhi for necessary action.
