Russia Offers 5th-Generation Su-57 Fighter Tech to India Ahead of Putin’s Visit

New Delhi/Moscow: In a major strategic overture ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s India visit next month, Russia has offered New Delhi unprecedented access to its Su-57 fifth-generation fighter ecosystem — a proposal no other country has extended to India before.

Top Russian defence officials confirmed that the offer includes not just off-the-shelf Su-57 jets but a full technology-transfer roadmap, starting with deliveries of Russia-built fighters and eventually shifting production to India. Moscow is also ready to put the single-engine Su-75 Checkmate stealth jet on the table as part of its latest pitch.

‘Take What You Want’: Russia’s Big Pitch
At the Dubai Air Show 2025, Rostec chief Sergey Chemezov told ANI that Russia is prepared to open the entire 5th-gen suite to India — engines, stealth materials, sensors, AESA radar tech, and next-gen air-weapons integration.

“India and Russia have been partners for many years. Even when India faced sanctions, we stood by it,” he said, adding that Moscow remains ready to supply any defence equipment New Delhi requires.

A senior Rosoboronexport official reinforced this, noting that Russia is offering license production of future air-launched weapons and is willing to integrate Indian-origin systems. The transfer package reportedly covers propulsion tech, optics, AI-enabled avionics, low-observable composites and advanced weaponry.

Su-75 Checkmate Likely Part of the Deal
Defence analyst and former IAF Squadron Leader Vijainder K Thakur told The Eurasia Times that the renewed Russian push almost certainly includes the Su-75 Checkmate. Moscow has previously signalled its readiness to shift Checkmate production to a partner nation — with India seen as the most viable option.

Local manufacturing of the Su-75, he said, could plug India’s fifth-gen void at reasonable cost, complement DRDO’s twin-engine AMCA programme, and create export opportunities similar to the BrahMos model.

Putin’s India Visit Expected to Announce Key Defence Deals
President Putin will land in India in December for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit — his first trip since 2021. The visit is expected to see major defence announcements as both sides recalibrate their strategic partnership.

Earlier this week, Putin’s top aide Nikolai Patrushev met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi to discuss maritime cooperation and ongoing preparations for the summit. The Russian Embassy said both sides reviewed progress across key sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to boosting joint capabilities.

With Moscow pushing a once-in-a-generation technology handover and New Delhi eyeing next-gen air dominance, all eyes are now on December’s summit — where the future of India’s fighter aviation may be rewritten.
