New Delhi: The Indian Army has inducted three additional AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from US aerospace major Boeing, further strengthening its aerial strike and anti-armour capabilities. The latest induction follows an earlier delivery of three Apaches in July, taking forward the Army Aviation Corps’ attack helicopter fleet.
Often described as “tanks in the air”, the AH-64E Apache is among the world’s most lethal combat helicopters, designed for high-intensity battlefield operations. Armed with a 30-mm chain gun, Hellfire anti-tank missiles and precision rockets, the platform is built to take out enemy armour, provide close air support and conduct armed reconnaissance missions.

The AH-64E variant comes equipped with advanced sensors, modern avionics, data-sharing systems and all-weather, day-night operational capability. Its ability to operate in complex terrain and hostile conditions significantly enhances the Army’s combat reach and battlefield dominance.
An engineering marvel, the Apache can network with other platforms, share real-time battlefield data and even control unmanned aerial vehicles, giving commanders superior situational awareness during operations.
With the induction of the latest helicopters, the Indian Army is expected to accelerate operational deployment with its dedicated Army Aviation squadrons, bolstering offensive capabilities along key sectors. The Apache induction is a major step in the Army’s broader modernisation drive aimed at enhancing precision strike power and rapid response capability.
