Indian Army Achieves Major Logistics Feat, Moves Tanks and Artillery into Kashmir Valley by Rail

Jammu: In a significant boost to operational readiness, the Indian Army on Tuesday achieved a major logistics milestone by inducting tanks and artillery guns into the Kashmir Valley using a special military train, underscoring enhanced mobility and rapid deployment capability to the northernmost reaches of the country.

As part of a validation exercise, tanks, artillery guns and heavy engineering equipment, including dozers, were successfully transported from the Jammu region to Anantnag in south Kashmir. The move demonstrated the Army’s strengthened logistics network and its ability to swiftly mobilise heavy assets across challenging terrain.

The operation was carried out in coordination with Northern Railway, which has been expanding container-based freight services in the region. Besides military logistics, these wagons have also been used to transport apples, vehicles and cement, supporting trade and industry in the Valley.

Defence officials said the successful induction by rail marks a crucial step in improving strategic mobility, ensuring faster response times and sustained operational preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir.
