Gaya: A young teacher from Bihar has captured public attention for her soulful and innovative approach to education—teaching the verses of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita through singing. Shalini Rajput, a music and Hindi teacher at Dayaprakash Saraswati Vidya Mandir, has become a talking point for blending classical music with value-based learning.
Only 23, Shalini teaches Hindi and English alphabets alongside the Gita’s Sanskrit shlokas and their Hindi essence, all set to melodious tunes. Her sweet voice and musical presentation have made complex verses easy to grasp, keeping students deeply engaged. The method has not only enhanced learning but also sparked enthusiasm among children, many of whom now confidently recite and understand Gita verses.

Shalini says her journey with music began early, inspired by her family’s musical background. “I grew up listening to bhajans and reading the Gita at home. Music became my medium to pass on values,” she shared. She has received several recognitions, including honours at cultural events such as the Gajna Mahotsav, and dreams of reaching great heights in devotional music like Anup Jalota.
The initiative began when Shalini noticed students struggling with exam stress. She started singing Gita verses in class, which helped calm their minds and gradually built a strong emotional bond with the scripture. Since joining the school in 2023, she has been using music as a daily teaching tool, helping students memorise and correctly pronounce even difficult Sanskrit words.
With nearly 2,500 students in the school, Shalini’s classes have become a space where education, culture, and mental well-being converge. “My aim is not just to complete the syllabus, but to nurture a value-driven generation,” she says—an effort that has now put both the teacher and her school firmly in the spotlight.
