New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has moved a substantive motion seeking the cancellation of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s membership and demanding a lifetime ban on him contesting elections, according to media reports.
The move follows Gandhi’s sharp criticism of the Modi government in Parliament over the recently finalised India–US trade agreement and the Union Budget.
Dubey alleged that the Congress leader maintains links with foreign organisations and accused him of associating with “anti-India elements” during overseas visits — charges that have not been independently verified.
pic.twitter.com/E4aT8hHUhN

Gandhi’s attack on trade pact
The development comes after days of parliamentary disruptions ended with Gandhi delivering a blistering speech in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, targeting the government’s trade negotiations with Washington.
He accused the Centre of compromising national interests and harming farmers by opening domestic markets to American goods under the agreement.
‘Complete surrender’ charge
In an emotionally charged address, Gandhi described the pact as a “complete surrender”, alleging sweeping concessions that could threaten Indian agriculture and energy security.
“You have sold India… sold our mother, Bharat Mata,” he said, questioning the government’s negotiating strategy and intent.
Gandhi argued that an INDIA Bloc government would have negotiated on equal terms and warned that cheaper US agricultural imports could pressure Indian farmers. He also flagged potential fallout for the textile sector and raised concerns over long-term economic and data-security implications.
Calling the agreement a “tragedy”, the Congress leader said it could affect the future of 1.5 billion Indians — claims the government has not responded to in detail in the House so far.
