
New Delhi: In a key leadership transition for India’s steel sector, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda has been selected as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Steel Authority of India Limited, following a competitive selection process conducted by the Public Enterprises Selection Board.
The decision was finalised after PESB interviewed a pool of 10 senior candidates from across public sector undertakings and the Railways. Based on the evaluation, the board recommended Dr. Panda’s name for the top post.
Insider with Financial Acumen Takes Charge
Currently serving as Director (Finance) at SAIL, Dr. Panda has also been handling additional responsibilities in the company’s commercial division. Known for his expertise in financial management and corporate governance, his elevation is expected to bring strategic direction to the PSU’s financial and operational roadmap.
Industry observers view the appointment as a crucial move, given SAIL’s position as one of India’s largest steel producers and its ongoing efforts to strengthen efficiency and competitiveness.
