From Healthcare to Jobs: CCL’s CSR Drive Creates Massive Social Impact in FY 2025-26

Ranchi: In a strong push towards inclusive growth and grassroots transformation, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has rolled out a wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive in FY 2025–26, impacting thousands of families across Jharkhand with measurable gains in health, education, livelihoods and sustainability.

The coal major’s CSR strategy, focused on communities in its operational areas, is showing visible results on the ground—improving access to healthcare, boosting employability, and strengthening rural incomes.

Healthcare & Nutrition: Reaching the Last Mile

CCL’s health initiatives have emerged as a lifeline in remote regions. A ₹15.09 crore mega kitchen in Ramgarh, being set up with Akshaya Patra Foundation, is expected to serve nutritious meals to 50,000 children daily, targeting malnutrition at scale.

Under the TB support programme Nikshay Mitra, over 5,140 patients in Chatra and Latehar are receiving nutritional and care support, with ₹2.93 crore invested. More than 3,500 beneficiaries have already been onboarded on the government’s Ni-kshay portal.

The Nanha Sa Dil initiative, in partnership with Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, has screened 39,000+ children for congenital heart disease. So far, 115 life-saving surgeries have been completed, with all expenses fully covered.

Additionally, under Project Aditi, nearly 16,000 people have been screened for sickle cell anemia, while 1.5 lakh beneficiaries have accessed healthcare through 890 medical camps. Mobile medical units are now serving 56 villages, improving rural healthcare access.

Education & Jobs: Building Pathways to Opportunity

CCL is investing heavily in education infrastructure and talent development. A ₹65 crore mega library in Ranchi, with capacity for 5,000 users, is under construction and aims to become a major knowledge hub.

Through flagship schemes CCL ke Lal and CCL ki Ladli, 308 underprivileged students have received coaching, with 219 cracking engineering admissions. The company spends about ₹1.8 lakh per student annually, underlining its long-term commitment.

Skill development programmes, run with ICA Foundation, have trained 100 youth so far, with 88 placed in jobs earning between ₹12,000 and ₹33,000 per month. Overall, more than 1,000 युवाओं have gained employment-linked skills this year.

Rural Economy Boost: From Farming to Enterprise

In Hazaribagh, a ₹5.41 crore integrated development project across nine villages is helping nearly 5,000 families build sustainable incomes through agriculture, livestock and micro-enterprises. Annual income gains of ₹20,000–₹50,000 per family are projected.

Meanwhile, under the PM Panchtatva initiative, infrastructure upgrades are underway in 25 government schools in Ranchi, improving basic facilities and learning conditions.

Sports & Inclusion: Talent from the Hinterland

The JSSPS Sports Academy, a joint initiative of CCL and the Jharkhand government, is emerging as a powerhouse of sporting talent.

With 234 athletes in training—96% from SC/ST/OBC communities—the academy has already delivered 2,123 medals, including 21 international honours, earning it national recognition.

Environment & Animal Welfare: Humane Development

CCL is also focusing on ecological and social sensitivity. Under Project Ashray, a modern stray animal shelter is nearing completion, alongside a 24×7 animal ambulance service—a rare initiative in the region.

National Recognition & Leadership Vision

CCL’s CSR impact has earned multiple honours, including:

  • CSR Times Award 2025 (Livelihood)
  • India CSR Award 2025 (Youth Empowerment)
  • Outstanding CSR Performer at the CIL CSR Conclave

Led by CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh, the company is positioning itself as more than just a mining enterprise—driving social change alongside industrial growth.

The Big Picture

CCL’s CSR journey is no longer about compliance—it’s about transformation. From saving children’s lives to creating jobs and empowering villages, the company is quietly reshaping the socio-economic landscape of Jharkhand—one initiative at a time.
