From Pahalgam to Payback: Operation Sindoor & Mahadev Define India’s Anti-Terror Stand
New Delhi: On the eve of the first anniversary of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army reiterated its unwavering resolve to combat terrorism, asserting that acts crossing “the boundaries of humanity” will invite a decisive response.
The April 22 attack last year in Pahalgam claimed 26 lives—mostly tourists—in the scenic Baisaran Valley, sending shockwaves across the nation and drawing widespread international condemnation. Calling the massacre a “turning point,” the Army underscored that justice for the victims was non-negotiable.
Swift Retaliation: Operation Sindoor
In a calibrated military response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor during the night of May 6–7, 2025. The operation involved precision strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating over 100 terrorists, including trainers and handlers linked to outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The Army emphasized that the strikes were “measured yet impactful,” ensuring maximum damage to terror infrastructure while minimizing civilian casualties. A social media message accompanying the anniversary read: “Some boundaries should never be crossed. India does not forget.”
Operation Mahadev: Hunt for Perpetrators
Simultaneously, a massive ground operation—Operation Mahadev—was launched to track down those directly involved in the killings. Based on eyewitness accounts and intelligence inputs, three Pakistani terrorists were identified as the attackers.
What followed was a 93-day-long, multi-agency manhunt involving the Army, intelligence agencies, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Armed Police Forces. The operation reached its decisive phase on July 10, 2025, culminating in the elimination of all three terrorists on July 28 after coordinated tactical action.
Officials described the mission as one of the most extensive counter-terror operations in recent years, showcasing seamless coordination and real-time intelligence fusion.
Tribute and Continued Vigil
A black marble memorial has since been erected along the Lidder River in Pahalgam, bearing the names of all 26 victims, including local resident Adil Shah. The site now stands as a solemn reminder of the tragedy and the nation’s resolve.
Senior military leadership has repeatedly stressed that counter-terror operations remain ongoing and that India’s defence preparedness continues at a high state of alert throughout the year.
Marking the anniversary, the Army reaffirmed its message: terrorism will be met with precision, persistence, and justice—without exception.
