Somnath Temple marked 75 years of restoration with grand celebrations

Gujrat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed a grand Mahapuja at the revered Somnath Temple during the Somnath Amrut Parv celebrations, commemorating 75 years since the restoration and reopening of the historic temple.

The sacred rituals included Mahapuja, Kumbhabhishek, and the ceremonial flag-hoisting at the Jyotirlinga shrine, as thousands of devotees gathered to witness the spiritual occasion.

Describing the moment as deeply emotional, the Prime Minister said the overwhelming devotion and energy around Somnath had touched his heart. He remarked that the atmosphere made him relive the historic moment experienced by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad, during the inauguration of the rebuilt temple decades ago.

Modi said the Somnath Amrut Parv carried extraordinary spiritual energy and reflected the timeless faith of the people. He added that devotion to Lord Shiva could be felt in every corner of Somnath.

Calling the occasion a landmark in Bharat’s civilisational journey, the Prime Minister said the reopening of the reconstructed Somnath Temple 75 years ago symbolised India’s cultural resurgence and unbreakable spirit.

Highlighting the historical significance of the temple’s restoration, Modi said, “If India gained independence in 1947, then the Prana Pratishtha of Somnath in 1951 proclaimed India’s independent consciousness.” He described the reconstruction of Somnath as a powerful assertion of national self-respect and civilisational pride.

In a message shared on X, Modi described the opportunity to perform Mahapuja and seek blessings at Somnath as one of the most unforgettable moments of his life. He said the darshan and worship of Mahadev filled him with immense spiritual energy and devotion.

Addressing devotees, the Prime Minister said the Somnath Temple stands as a symbol of unwavering faith, divinity, and the eternal soul of India. He stated that the Somnath Amrut Parv was not only a celebration of the past but also an inspiration for the next thousand years.

Emphasising the importance of cultural roots, Modi said a nation remains strong only when it stays connected to its heritage and traditions. He asserted that no force in the world could make India bow before anyone.

Referring to National Technology Day, the Prime Minister also recalled India’s historic nuclear tests, saying they demonstrated the nation’s scientific capability and strong political resolve before the world.

Earlier, Modi held a roadshow from Prabhas Patan to Hamirji Gohil Circle, where large crowds welcomed him with chants, traditional music, and drumbeats. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi accompanied him during the procession.

The Prime Minister also paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel before leaving for Vadodara, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Sardardham Hostel.
