Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Sets ₹3,000 Crore Revenue Goal from Sand Ghats, Cracks Down on Illegal Mining

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the operationalisation of 300 auctioned sand ghats and intensify action against illegal mining, vehicle overloading and the sand mafia to strengthen state revenue generation.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Mines and Geology Department and the Building Construction Department at the Jharkhand Secretariat, Soren set a target of generating around ₹3,000 crore through efficient sand mining operations.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure the immediate commencement of mining activities at auctioned sand ghats and accelerate the auction process for the remaining sites. He also emphasized strict monitoring to curb illegal mining and transportation activities across the state.

According to officials, Jharkhand has 820 sand ghats, of which extraction is currently being carried out at 376 Category-I ghats through panchayats. Of the 444 Category-II ghats, 300 have already been auctioned.

Soren further directed authorities to expedite statutory clearances for auctioned coal blocks that are yet to become operational, stating that faster implementation of mining projects would significantly enhance the state’s revenue and support economic development.
