News Desk: In a major recognition for Indian sports, Jharkhand’s Jaideep Sarkar has been unanimously selected as a Global Member of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (IPCC), giving India a stronger voice in the global drive to promote Olympic education, values and the Olympic Movement. The decision was taken at the IPCC Annual General Assembly 2026 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The selection was made at the IPCC Annual General Assembly 2026, held in Lausanne on August 22, following detailed deliberations on strengthening Olympic education and advancing the Olympic Movement worldwide.
Sarkar’s appointment comes at a significant time for Indian sports, with the country intensifying efforts to expand its global sporting footprint and pursuing its ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
Currently serving as Chief Coach at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, under the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sarkar is also the Honorary General Secretary of the Mongia National Volleyball Academy, Giridih, recognised under the Khelo India Mission.
His coaching career includes a notable achievement at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, where the Indian men’s volleyball team, under his leadership, climbed six places with a strong campaign that included back-to-back victories over former medal-winning teams South Korea and Chinese Taipei.
Sarkar has also represented India on international platforms advocating the strengthening of the Olympic Movement. In 2023, he presented India’s perspective at a global convention in Athens, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
He has further contributed to Jharkhand’s sporting profile through his role as Lead Officer in the Global Active City Mission, supported by the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee. His efforts helped Bokaro become India’s first Partner City under the initiative and subsequently advance as a Candidate City.
His elevation to the IPCC’s global membership is being viewed as an important recognition of India’s contribution to Olympic education, sports development and the promotion of Olympic values on the international stage.
