Kolkata bridge collapse, many feared trapped-in

Dozens of people are feared trapped after a portion of a bridge collapsed in south Kolkata on Tuesday evening. A portion of Majerhat Bridge on busy Diamond Harbour Road reportedly collapsed around 4.50 pm, informed an authority.

A part of the structure caved in and as a result,  cars, two-wheelers and a bus that were on that section plunged below. We still not confirmed how many vehicles or pedestrians might be trapped under the rubble, said the authority.

According to the eyewitness, over twenty people have been injured in the incident; several vehicles are trapped under the debris of the collapsed bridge.

Over dozens of injured persons have been admitted to the SSKM hospital in critical condition. Fire brigade, police, and NDRF personnel are engaged in rescue and relief operations. Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with the senior officials of police and PWD have reached the spot.

Army has been called in for rescuing the people trapped under the bridge.
