IIT-ISM Dhanbad students become Global winner of KIC-2020

Four students of IIT-ISM Dhanbad, have been crowned as the overall champions at the global finals of the KPMG Ideation Challenge (KIC), 2020.

“Navcharitam” the ISM team representing India, was the winner. The team was compromising of Sanchit Kumar (Bachelor of Technology in Mining Engineering), Parth Hetamsaria (Bachelor of Technology in Mining Engineering), Varnika Kumari (Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering) and Srajan Gupta (Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering).

Out of the seventeen participating teams in the global finals, three teams representing USA, China, and India qualified for the grand finale, informed Sanchit, a resident of Bokaro.

Explaining about their project, Sanchit said, “Our project was related to the use of sensors in mining, which was appreciated by all.”

This online examination was held on 24 and 25 August, in which students from 17 countries participated and demonstrated their presentation virtually.

Earlier this competition was scheduled to be held in South Korea but due Coronavirus pandemic it was conducted virtually, said Parth.

“It was a world-wide competition in which the participating teams were expected to come up with innovative solutions that use the latest advanced analytical technologies to improve efficiencies and enable a business to achieve more in less time,” he said.

“After winning the National Finals held at Gurugram on February 15, 2020 we have qualified for global finals. The winners received 50,000 USD in seed funding and an interview call up at KPMG,” added Parth.
