Vedanta-ESL develops Nutri Gardens to fight Malnutrition

Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group Company has developed 270 Nutri Gardens and Greh Vatikas at its Nand Ghars to eradicate malnutrition in the community. Under the initiative, fruits and vegetables are grown and fed to women and children to provide nourishment and health.

To encourage the practice, ESL hosted a Nutrition Garden Competition among its Nand Ghars in the presence of Chandankyari Sub Inspector R. N. Singh, ICDS officials Veena Devi and Usha Kumari and ESL’s CSR team where the three best Nutrition Gardens and Greh Vatikas were reviewed and awarded in the Chandankiyari Block.

The concept of nutri garden in Anganwadi initiated after the conversion of Angan bari into Nand Ghar. Now the entire government scheme like Poshan Mah, God Bharai, Muh Juthi, Hand Wash everything is being celebrated in Nand Ghar, said Veena Devi adding “This is a very good initiative of Vedanta with HPPI to eradicate malnutrition among women and children. I thank them for the initiative.”

Our prime focus has been eradicating malnutrition among women and children through nutritious meals which are being accessed through vegetables and fruits grown in the nutri gardens and Greh Vatikas at Nand Ghars, said Ashish Ranjan, Head – Community Relations.

“It gives us immense pleasure in giving back to society through these initiatives. We shall make sure that ESL continues to stay focussed on the community members that need it the most,” he added.
