RNS: A ‘Skill Hub’ was opened at Delhi Public School, Bokaro Steel City on Monday in an effort to introduce students to entrepreneurship and help them realise the importance of skill acquisition.
The aim of the Skill Hub is to empower adult learners and school dropouts with learning opportunities that will allow them to become financially independent. This initiative, called ‘Skill Hub Initiative,’ is part of PMKVY 3.0, which aims to improve access to quality education and train workers who are ready for the workforce of the future. According to the ‘National Education Policy 2020,’ vocational education will be integrated with general education.
On this occasion, Kuldeep Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Bokaro, launched the “Skill Hub.” Neelam Ileen Toppo, District Education Officer, Bokaro, and dozens of Principals of the Dr. Radhakrishnan Sahodaya School Complex, Bokaro, were also present.
In keeping with the school’s “Go Green” ethos, the visitors were each given a sapling as a welcome gift. An invocation to Lord Ganesha and the lighting of the sacred lamp opened the brief cultural event. Dancers dazzled the audience with a breathtaking performance that emphasised the need of teaching students how to move their bodies in order to succeed.
A special PowerPoint Presentation was shown to explain the workings of the Skill Hub and the evaluation criteria. The sewing kits were handed over to the 35 learners who have registered for the programme. They will receive the training free of cost as all expenses will be borne by the DPS Bokaro School Management.
Speaking on the occasion, DC expressed his happiness at the launch of Skill Hub at DPS Bokaro and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the initiative. He said that this will provide a platform wherein the learners would get an opportunity to learn the skills and create their own identity.
The 50 hours of training for three months provided by the school free of cost will help in creating a skilled workforce. He added that such programs are going on in government schools also. Together with other private educational institutions a further strategy can be made, a common database of such programs will be prepared for future requirements.
With the aid of CSR and other resources, the District Administration is working on implementing similar initiatives in other areas to help connect skilled youngsters with employment, he said.
Emphasizing the need of learning new skills as a step toward self-sufficiency and self-employment, DEO Toppo said, the school has now become a “skills hub”.
Speaking on the occasion, A.S. Gangwar Principal DPS Bokaro said, “When children learn new skills, they also experience independence which builds confidence and self-esteem. So, helping children learn new skills plays an important part in shaping up their overall development.”
“National Education Policy aims at making education more equitable, inclusive and high-quality and this initiative brings to light our preparedness to spearhead quality education through creative arts as well,” he added.
