RNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the newly built Parliament Building to the nation on Sunday. On December 10, 2020, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the new Parliament building.
Modi unveiled the plaque commemorating the inauguration of the New Parliament Building after conducting Havan and installing Sengol in the New Parliament. The Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha also attended the Sarv Dharm (all-religions) prayer.
Modi will also unveil a 75-rupee coin and stamp commemorating the momentous occasion in the afternoon.
The new Parliament building represents the ethos of self-reliance in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The new Parliament building is 65 thousand square meters in size. Its triangular design maximizes space utilization. The Lok Sabha hall has 888 seats and is themed after the national bird, the peacock. The Rajya Sabha will have 384 seats and will be themed after the National Flower, the lotus. For joint sessions, the Lok Sabha hall would have a capacity of 1,272 seats.
