Bokaro: A new batch of twelve Birhor youngsters has joined the SAIL-Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Gyan Jyoti Yojana.” The Welfare Officer of Gomia Block formally handed over the twelve youths to a representative of Birhor Bal Niwas, a trainee hostel operated by BSL.
The event was attended by notable officials, including Bokaro District Administration’s CRK Sudhanshu, General Manager (L&A) Ashok Kumar, Deputy Manager (CSR) Bahadur Singh, Hostel Warden (CSR) Gaurav Ranjan, and other BSL representatives.
Under the Gyan Jyoti Yojana, the Bokaro Steel Plant offers comprehensive education from primary school to ITI levels. The program provides dress materials, dormitory accommodation, food, and other necessary facilities at no cost, ensuring that all daily needs of the adopted children are met. This year’s batch of Birhor youngsters will enroll in class 1 at DAV ISPAT Public School and is expected to complete their education up to class XII/ITI by 2036.
SAIL-BSL first began adopting children from the Birhor community in 2001 through the Gyan Jyoti CSR Scheme, with the inaugural batch graduating in 2012-13. The second batch of 15 Birhor children, adopted in 2011, is scheduled to complete their education by August 2024.
