Dhanbad: IIT-ISM Dhanbad organized an insightful session on “Environmental Governance, Audits, and ISO Norms: A Roadmap to Compliance and Excellence for a Sustainable Future” as part of its centenary celebrations and the ongoing Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series 2025-26.
The event, hosted by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) and the EIACP Programme Centre, was held at the IIT-ISMSeminar Hall.
The session was inaugurated by Prof. Alok Sinha, Head of ESE, who welcomed the participants. Prof. Biswajit Paul, Professor at IIT-ISM, introduced the keynote speakers: Gargi Ghosh, Advisor at The British Standards Institution (BSI), India, and Ishan Mehrotra, Manager of Sustainability at BSI.
Ghosh highlighted the role of BSI in promoting sustainability through global standards, stressing the significance of ISO certifications for businesses aiming to meet sustainability goals. Mehrotra, speaking virtually, discussed global risk trends and urged organizations to adopt responsible business practices in line with India’s climate commitments, such as the Panchamrit Action Plan and Mission LiFE, introduced by Prime Minister Modi at COP26.
The session featured an engaging discussion on regulatory compliance, environmental audits, CSR frameworks, and ESG policies, with participation from students, research scholars, faculty, and industry professionals from organizations like TATA Steel and Coal India. The discussion underscored the growing career opportunities in sustainability and the importance of collaborative efforts for effective environmental governance.
Organized under the leadership of Prof. Sinha, Prof. Paul, and Prof. Suresh Pandian E., and supported by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, and Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT-ISM & Chairman of IEI Dhanbad Local Centre, the session attracted around 80 participants. It emphasized the critical role of environmental governance, audits, and ISO norms in driving sustainable development and fostering industry-wide collaboration for long-term environmental excellence.
