PM Modi discusses tech, innovation collaboration with Tesla CEO Elon Musk

New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tech billionaire Elon Musk held a conversation on Friday, focusing on deepening technological and innovation partnerships between India and the United States.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation.” He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening its tech ties with the U.S.

The dialogue comes amid ongoing U.S. trade tensions under President Donald Trump’s second term, which has seen India hit with a 26% reciprocal tariff. Trump recently announced a 90-day delay in imposing new tariffs on all nations except China.

Meanwhile, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met with a delegation from Musk-owned Starlink to explore further investment opportunities in India. Goyal said the talks covered Starlink’s technological capabilities, existing partnerships, and future plans.

Notably, Starlink, a satellite internet venture by Musk, has recently partnered with Indian telecom giants Airtel and Jio to offer high-speed satellite broadband across the country. Elon Musk, considered a close ally of President Trump, continues to expand Starlink’s global reach, with India emerging as a key market.
