Bokaro: With a firm resolve to protect the environment and promote sustainable living, Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro celebrated International Mother Earth Day with a host of vibrant activities under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet.”
The school campus came alive with colourful cultural and literary presentations by students from both the Primary and Senior Wings, all aimed at fostering awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of protecting the planet’s ecosystems.
In the Primary Wing, students showcased their creativity with a poetry recital on the colours of nature, a mime performance on saving trees, and a Nukkad Natak focused on the three R’s — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The event concluded with the Earth Day slogan and a symbolic tree plantation drive, reinforcing the message of environmental stewardship.
The Senior Wing observed the day with equal enthusiasm. Members of the Eco Club welcomed Principal Dr. A. S. Gangwar with sprouting millets, symbolizing a commitment to ecological preservation and indigenous food culture. The celebrations featured a thought-provoking speech, a special Earth Day song, and a thematic dance performance emphasizing resource conservation and the vision of a ‘Zero-Waste School.’
To further the mission, eco volunteers were honoured with badges in recognition of their efforts in promoting effective waste management, a crucial step in reducing the school’s carbon footprint. The school community took the Earth Day Pledge, vowing to act as guardians of the planet.
In his address, Dr. Gangwar urged students to take proactive steps in combating pollution and conserving natural resources. Encouraging them to adopt the names of millets, he highlighted the role of indigenous grains in maintaining ecological balance and promoting health. “Every student must become a warrior for the environment,” he said, “by adopting sustainable practices and striving for a cleaner, greener Earth.”
