Ranchi: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, celebrated its 16th Foundation Day with a special event held on campus. Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court and Chancellor of NUSRL, Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, was the chief guest of the occasion, which was also graced by several notable figures, including Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, and Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri.
The event was attended by prominent judges of the Jharkhand High Court, esteemed lawyers, and Vice-Chancellors from the Central University of Jharkhand and Sarla Birla University. NUSRL Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the university’s journey, achievements, and future ambitions, including its aim to rank among the top 10 national law schools. He also credited the guidance of Justice Rao, Justice Prasad, and Advocate General Ranjan for the university’s success.
Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan encouraged students to explore careers in District and Sessions Courts for a comprehensive legal experience and praised the leadership of NUSRL. Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, in his address, reflected on the university’s early challenges and commended the faculty and staff for their unwavering dedication. He also emphasized the impact of NUSRL’s Legal Aid Cell in addressing social issues.
Chief Guest lauded the university’s contributions to legal services and societal welfare. He emphasized the importance of legal research in addressing contemporary economic challenges and noted that NUSRL students have excelled in litigation, the judiciary, and civil services.
A key highlight of the event was the inauguration of a new 200 MW solar power plant by Justice Rao, increasing the university’s total solar power capacity to 300 MW. A new powerhouse was also inaugurated to ensure a reliable electricity supply on campus.
Due to state mourning following the demise of Pope Francis, the cultural events planned for the day were canceled, and the celebration was held with a more modest tone.
During the occasion, an MoU was signed between NUSRL and the Central University of Jharkhand, with Vice-Chancellors Prof. Kshiti Bhushan Das (CUJ) and Prof. Dr. Ashok R. Patil (NUSRL) in attendance. Thirty-five students and thirteen teams were recognized for their outstanding achievements at national and international levels. Fifteen students also received merit and sports scholarships, while faculty and staff members who have served for over a decade were honored.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Registrar (I/c), Dr. Jisu Ketan Pattnaik, who expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the Foundation Day celebration.
