…US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard tells Modi on Pahalgam

Washington/New Delhi: In a strong message of solidarity, United States Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Friday extended heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India following the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 Hindu tourists dead.

In a formal statement addressed to PM Modi, Gabbard condemned the “horrific Islamist terrorist attack” and assured America’s unwavering support in India’s pursuit of justice. “We stand in solidarity with India… We are with you and support you as you hunt down those responsible for this heinous attack,” she said, offering prayers and sympathies to the victims’ families.

The deadly incident, which unfolded in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, targeted non-Muslim tourists, with terrorists reportedly using brutal methods to identify and execute the victims. A Nepali national was also among those killed in what has been described as one of the deadliest civilian-targeted attacks in recent years.

Earlier, former US President Donald Trump also condemned the attack, calling it “deeply disturbing” and reaffirming America’s support for India. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “The United States stands strong with India against terrorism. Our hearts are with the people of India.”

Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a rally in Bihar’s Madhubani, issued a stern warning to the perpetrators and their supporters. “India will identify and punish every terrorist and their backers. Terrorism will not go unpunished,” he declared. Modi assured that justice would be served and that such acts would not break India’s resolve.

In a swift diplomatic response, India has suspended the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, citing cross-border involvement uncovered during the investigation. The government has also taken other significant steps, including downgrading diplomatic ties with Islamabad, expelling Pakistani military officials, and closing the Attari land-transit point.

The international community continues to watch the situation closely, with calls growing for unified action against terrorism in South Asia.
