Maithili Poetry Collection ‘Kavik Aaba’ Launched in Kolkata

Kolkata/Bokaro: Dr. Santosh Kumar Jha, renowned Maithili, Hindi, and Sanskrit writer and former convener of Bokaro’s literary body ‘Sahitya Lok,’ launched his Maithili poetry collection ‘Kavik Aaba’ on Sunday evening at Bara Bazar Library, Kolkata. The event, attended by eminent Maithili writers, was organized by the cultural organization ‘Sampark’ and broadcast live by Mithimedia.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Jha emphasized poetry’s spontaneity, stating, “Poetry cannot be written with effort; true poetry flows naturally.”

Noted scholar Dr. Udaynath Jha Ashok, recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Bhasha Samman, highlighted the collection’s relevance to contemporary social needs. Senior poet Binay Bhushan praised Kavik Aaba as a mirror to the country’s current times, while Sahitya Akademi awardee Chandan Kumar Jha urged the poet to continue writing fearlessly. Dr. Vidyanand Jha of IIM Joka noted the collection’s deep reflection on rural life, labor, and national concerns.

Presiding over the event, scientist and author Dr. Yogendra Pathak Viyogi lauded the poem Simariak Mela and suggested the collection be turned into an audiobook to broaden access to Maithili poetry.

Following the launch, a poetry symposium chaired by senior litterateur Laxman Jha ‘Sagar’ was held, featuring poems themed around Pahalgam and other subjects. In an eco-conscious gesture, guests were welcomed with plants.

Writers associated with Sahitya Lok, including Buddhinath Jha, Tula Nand Mishra, Girijanand Jha Ardhanarishwar, and others, congratulated Dr. Jha on the publication.
