Ex-Indian Mujahideen Member Ammar Yasar Arrested in Dhanbad for Hizb ut-Tahrir Links

Dhanbad: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested Ammar Yasar, a former operative of the banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, from the Shamsher Nagar area of Dhanbad. The arrest comes as part of a widening probe into the suspected Jharkhand module of the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir.

Officials confirmed that Yasar, who had previously served a 10-year sentence following his 2014 arrest by Jodhpur Police, was taken into custody based on leads obtained during the interrogation of another accused, Ayan Javed. After his release from prison in 2024, Yasar allegedly established fresh links with Hizb ut-Tahrir operatives.

ATS sources revealed that incriminating documents were recovered from Yasar at the time of his arrest, pointing to active involvement with the terror network. He was presented before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

This arrest follows an April 26 crackdown in Dhanbad, during which the ATS apprehended four individuals suspected of links to banned groups Hizb ut-Tahrir and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The growing number of terror-linked arrests in Dhanbad has triggered serious concerns within national security agencies, prompting intensified surveillance and counterterrorism efforts in the region.
